The first federal election candidate to be officially registered in either Prince George riding is from the Christian Heritage Party.
As of 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, Election Canada’s website listed a single registered candidate in Cariboo-Prince George: Jake Wiens.
However, as of the morning of Tuesday, April 1, Green Party of Canada candidate Jodie Capling had been added to the list.
Wiens’ campaign website says he’s a retired teacher who worked at Cedars Christian School in Prince George for 21 years ending in 2014.
Since then, the website says, he authored a book titled “Life’s Ultimate Questions: exploring the stories that shape our everyday.”
Wiens is married and has four sons.
“As a culture watcher Jake is keenly aware of the critical cultural moment we are in,” Wiens’ website states.
“The foundations of our country are being eroded at an alarming rate. The Christian foundations created such a great advantage for this country and western culture. His passion is to speak truth to culture; only truth can restore the fortunes of our country. Running as a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party was just a natural fit.”
The Christian Heritage Party’s website does not yet list Evans as a candidate. To the northwest of Cariboo-Prince George, in Skeena-Bulkley Valley, party leader Rod Taylor is challenging NDP incumbent Taylor Bachrach.
The Citizen has reached out to Evans to request an interview about his candidacy.
