The city is inviting PG residents to pitch in next Sunday, April 27, to help do a little city-wide spring cleaning.
Residents are invited to register to help clean up parks, school yards, along streets and trails.
This event has been a long-standing tradition in Prince George. The annual Spring Cleanup got its start more than 100 years ago in 1918 under mayor Harry G. Perry, who gave the event the name Civic Clean-Up Day.
"The City has been involved in the annual Spring Clean Up for more than 100 years, said parks services supervisor Robyn McConkey. "This important local tradition is an easy way for residents to get involved with the community, join forces with neighbours and community groups, and help make our community beautiful and trash-free after the winter months. In 2024, more than 140 groups showed their civic pride and helped to clean up nearly 5,000 kilograms of trash!"
50 volunteer groups have already signed up to clean areas around the city, such as the Rotary Club of Prince George, Nukko Lake Elementary School, Prince George Regional Kerala Cultural Association, and the city council.
The City of Prince George is offering gear to assist in the clean up, which will be available from April 14th to 25th, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City Hall Service Centre.
Bags and gloves are available for all participants, and a limited number of sharps containers will be available upon request. Volunteers can start their clean-up route as early as 9 a.m. Bins will be available by 10 a.m.
The city has six bins located around the city for your collected garbage. The bins are for Spring Clean-Up participants only and should not be used for personal, household, or construction garbage. If the supplied bins are full or you can't bring your bags to the landfill, contact the city at 250-613-7424
A map of the bins and volunteer clean-up routes can be found here
Containers of sharps like needles can be dropped off at the Northern Health’s Harm Reduction Clinic at 277 George Street.
