The City of Prince George has officially kicked off the next stage of its budget consultation process for 2025, with the citizen budget survey now open to residents.

Starting Monday, Oct. 7, community members are encouraged to participate in the survey, which will remain accessible until Nov. 8. The survey invites residents to voice their opinions on budget priorities and explore how city funds are allocated across various municipal services, including roads, transportation, and more.

Using the citizen budget simulator, participants can input their property tax assessment to see how their tax dollars are distributed and adjust funding allocations to understand the implications of different service levels on their tax bills.

In addition to the main survey, residents can also engage with five brief online check-up surveys that assess satisfaction with specific city services, including events and recreation, parks and trails, protective services, roads and sidewalks and snow removal. Each survey contains fewer than 10 questions, and responses will remain anonymous.

As an added incentive, those who complete the budget survey will be entered into a prize draw for a $100 gift card to a local business of their choice.

Residents will have another opportunity to provide input during the budget open house on Oct. 30 at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre. This event will feature presentations from city staff about the budget process, infrastructure, and services, as well as a chance to engage with city councillors and senior leadership. The open house will begin with information sharing at 3:30 p.m., followed by presentations and a Q&A session at 5:30 p.m.

All feedback collected from the surveys and the open house will be presented to city council in preparation for budget deliberations set to begin in December 2024.
