On Thursday the city opened the surface parking lot associated with its new, $22.45 million underground parkade downtown.
The 62-stall parking lot is located at 1079 Sixth Avenue, between Queensway and George Street. Parking at the lot is $1 per hour during the day, up to $6 per day, and free on evenings and weekends.
The lot can be accessed from the southbound lane of Queensway, Sixth Avenue and from a lane off of Fifth Avenue.
The surface lot is part of the city project to build a 289-stall underground parkade in partnership with A & T Projects Development Ltd. The parkade, which is $9.85 million over-budget according to a report to city council on Monday, provides the foundation for the four-stage, 160-unit Park House condo complex.
