Do you want to have a say about how accessible Prince George is for those who have physical challenges?
The city of Prince George is looking for people who want to identify, remove, and prevent physical and social barriers.
Interested residents would serve as a volunteer member on the Advisory Committee on Accessibility.
The group advises city council and staff on strategies and actions to enhance access and remove barriers in Prince George.
For example, the committee recognizes contributions of an individual, group or business each year through a special award called the Access Award of Merit.
It also engages with residents who have access challenges to identify, remove, and prevent physical and social barriers to create a more inclusive and barrier-free community.
The committee advises on enhancing city facilities, trails, walkways, transit or programs to accommodate people with mobility challenges.
Recently the committee advised upon the development of new parking lot and sidewalk enhancement at Duchess Park.
The committee consists of nine citizens appointed by city council and one council member appointee. The membership is a cross representation of individuals with disabilities and service providers familiar with accessibility issues.
The Advisory Committee on Accessibility meets monthly and successful applicants will be appointed for a two-year term, starting April 1, 2019.
