Residents of the Hart might notice a change in the colour of their water early next week, due to water main maintenance conducted by the city.

On Monday and Tuesday of next week (May 7 and 8), city crews will be completing two major vault tie-ins, as part of a water main twinning project along Foothills Boulevard and in the Hart. The work is intended to improve the reliability of water services, according to a media statement from city hall.

"During the operation, residents in the Hart may experience dirty-looking water in their household systems. The water is safe to drink," said the media statement.

"There is also a possibility of low pressure in the Hart area as systems are adjusted during the installation."

The water main maintenance is part of a $9.5 million project initially begun by the city in July of 2017. The project has involved the installation of a new 3.6 km water main to provide redundancy for the existing water main installed in 1973, as well as the replacement of a 35-year old water pump station south of Vellencher Rd.
