The College of New Caledonia’s automotive program is looking for vehicles with lit “check engine” lights for their students to diagnose and repair.
Vehicles will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis from Monday to Thursday next week between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
“This is a great opportunity for vehicle owners to get their cars fixed properly at a much lower cost while also supporting the next generation of technicians,” instructor Ken Rowell. “(Automotive service technician) students are in the final week of their course, and this is when they can put all their knowledge together and do some real-world diagnosis work. These are the same people who’ll be caring for your cars in local shops in just a few months.”
Vehicle owners will be responsible for covering the cost of any parts required for the repair. Most repairs will be completed within the allotted class time, but repairs may take longer as it is a college program and not an established auto service shop, a statement released by the college on Friday said.
For more information, or to book a vehicle for diagnosis or repairs, call 250-562-2131 extension 5688.
Although there is a limit of six vehicles for next week’s opportunity, the program is always looking for vehicles needing basic repairs.
“Our foundations classes are always looking for vehicles that need basic repairs like brakes steering, suspension, maintenance, electrical, etc. We’ll take as many cars as possible,” Rowell said. “All repairs start with diagnosis or inspection, then the owner is given a list of needs and they can decide what they’d like to have fixed.”
