TC Energy has completed pipeline installation on a third section of the Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline being built across northern B.C.
As of the end of May 31, work on the project was 90 per cent completed. Sections 1, 4 and 6 of the pipeline are now completed, and sections 2, 5 and 8 more than 90 per cent finished. A total of 622 km of pipeline has been installed along the 670-km route from west of Dawson Creek to Kitimat.
“The summer construction season is always our busiest time of year, and during our final construction season things are no different,” a project update released by TC Energy on Thursday said. “In the coming months we expect more than 6,000 women and men to be working along the project route as we set our sights on 100 per cent construction completion by the end of the year. The last 10 per cent of the Project will focus on technically challenging sections, complex workfronts, integrity testing and remaining watercourse crossings.”
As of May 31, 4,033 workers were employed on the project, including 736 based at Parsnip Lodge, located 117 km northeast of Prince George. Work on Section 3 of the pipeline, north of the city, was 89 per cent completed as of May 31.
“As we enter the summer months, Coastal GasLink remains committed to the safety of the environment and communities, as we continue to closely monitor the wildfire situation across the province. Our workforce is on high alert, and crews are in place project-wide that are trained and fully equipped to suppress fires that could occur in the area,” the update said. “As such, we are pleased to announce that Coastal GasLink and TC Energy has provided a donation of $70,000 to the United Way of Northern BC (UWNBC)’s Urgent Response Fund, enabling immediate assistance to those displaced and impacted by wildfires in northern B.C.”
