Work to replace a water main along Third Avenue began in May, and is expected to last until September, according to information posted by the City of Prince George on social media.
The project has closed the eastbound lanes of Third Avenue between Edmonton Street and Vancouver Street. Construction is expected to run between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. between Monday to Friday.
The city is reminding drivers to expect delays along Third Avenue for the rest of the summer, and watch out for crews working in the area.
“This project consists of replacing the watermain between Edmonton Street and Vancouver Street, including all water infrastructure up to the property line. This is part of the City’s Watermain Replacement Program to address vulnerable and aging infrastructure,” a letter sent from the City of Prince George to area business owners on May 9 said. “The project will use insulation to install the watermain shallow, decreasing the disruption, cost, and duration of construction. In the year following the watermain replacement, this section of road is scheduled for repaving as part of the City’s annual paving program.”
Temporary water outages are expected during the project, but the city said it would provide two days notice to businesses before they are impacted by outages.
“The city coordinates with emergency services to ensure access for emergency vehicles,” the letter said. “During construction, you may also experience noise and vibrations from the equipment working onsite.”
