The Prince George Transit System is experiencing service disruptions because of the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on employee wellness.

BC Transit says this is resulting in the need to alter schedules and cancel trips on short notice, which is a challenge being faced across the province and by many other transportation agencies.

The current impacts to service have resulted in the need to make schedule changes in the Prince George Transit System.

To minimize the impact on riders, BC Transit will be posting alerts as soon as possible online once trip cancellations are confirmed. BC Transit is also asking riders to check for alerts regularly online and sign up to receive route-specific email notifications.

The company says for the health and safety of customers and drivers, all employees are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell.

BC Transit says this has been the policy since the beginning of the pandemic, along with enhanced bus and facility cleaning, mandatory masks for the entirety of the customer’s transit journey and one way passenger flow on the bus.

In Nov 2021, BC Transit also implemented a vaccination policy for all employees and the operating companies have all confirmed compliance with this policy for their employees.

BC Transit and the operating company in Prince George are continuing to recruit and hire more drivers to reduce service impacts and improve stability in the system.

Customers will have a chance to ride along with new transit operators in the coming weeks, as four more drivers are currently moving through the training process.

BC Transit says it understands the current service challenges are frustrating and appreciates the patience of customers and drivers during this time.
