Prince George is home to B.C.'s top Crime Stoppers program.

Local representatives of Prince George Crime Stoppers were presented with a plaque naming the program as such during a B.C. Crime Stoppers event in Victoria on Friday.

Prince George Crime Stoppers vice president Ron Polillo said efforts to get the effort's name out in the community, such as the shred-it events and appearances at Cougars, Spruce Kings and UNBC Timberwolves (editor's note: an earlier version of this story incorrectly identified UNBC's team as the Wolfpack) games as well as Pine Centre Mall, put it over the top.

Impressive numbers helped seal the deal. During 2017, it received 565 tips and that translated into 24 arrests, $103,000 in property recovered and $153,750 drugs seized.

"Our job is to get people to hopefully phone tipline and pass that information onto police and it sounds like from their perspective it's good information and it's translating into investigations and arrests," Polillo said.

The Crime Stoppers tipline remains in place. If you have information on an offence but prefer to provide it anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca. You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers. If you provide information that leads to an arrest, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
