The BC Natural Resources Forum has added a pair of day-long, pre-forum workshops for industry, government and First Nations leaders attending the event in Prince George.
The workshops, on crisis communication and impact benefit agreements between resource industries and First Nations, will take place on Jan. 17, the first day of the forum. The forum runs Jan. 17-19, and will return as a live and in-person event at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre for the first time in two years.
“Cyberattacks, industrial accidents, wildfires, environmental infractions, protests, and blockades – for most organizations, it’s not a question of ‘if’ a crisis will happen, but ‘when,’” information about the crisis communication workshop on the BC Natural Resources Forum website says. “Any crisis has the potential to impact your operations, employees, customers, community relationships, and bottom line. When the unthinkable happens, are you prepared to manage the onslaught of public scrutiny from critics, journalists, and government regulators all amplified by social media?”
Veteran public relations officer Martin Livingston of Living Communications Inc. will host the workshop on crisis communication.
Dan Bornstein, a partner with Canadian law firm McCarthy TeTrault, will host the workshop on impact benefit agreements.
“(The) workshop provides information about resource sector benefit agreements explaining why they are needed, how to negotiate them, what they consist of, and how to prepare them and make them work,” BC Natural Resources Forum’s website says.
