The Arctic lows of the past several weeks are over.
Prince George can expect temperatures above freezing in the days ahead, and a couple of days of rain following snow on Wednesday and early Thursday.
Nighttime lows will continue to drop below zero.
For Thursday, expect mainly cloudy skies throughout the day with a 30 per cent chance of flurries early in the morning. Snow will begin late this morning, transitioning to periods of rain in the afternoon. Higher terrain may see up to 2 cm of snowfall. Winds will pick up to 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h near noon. Expect a high of 2 C, but with wind chill making it feel closer to -12 C.
On Thursday night, rain will change back to light, wet snow near midnight, with a risk of freezing rain. The overnight low will hover around 0°C.
- Friday, Feb. 21: Expect periods of light wet snow turning to rain by midday, with a risk of freezing rain early in the morning. Higher terrain could accumulate 2 cm of snow. Winds will increase to 30 km/h, gusting up to 60 km/h. The high will reach 5 C, with rain continuing through the night and a low of 3 C.
- Saturday, Feb. 22: Rain will persist, accompanied by windy conditions throughout the day, with a high of 7 C. By night, expect cloudy periods and a 60 per cent chance of showers. The overnight low will dip to 2 C.
- Sunday, Feb. 23: Cloudiness will increase, with a high of 7 C. Tonight, periods of rain or snow are expected, with a low of 1 C.
- Monday, Feb.24: Clear skies are anticipated during the day, with temperatures reaching 7 C. At night, clouds will return with a 60 per cent chance of flurries. Expect a low of -4 C.
- Tuesday, Feb. 25: Cloudy conditions will prevail, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries during the day. The high will be 6 C, with a cloudy night and a low of -3 C.
- Wednesday, Feb. 26: Cloudy skies continue throughout the day with a high of 6 C.
Normal conditions for this time of year are a max of 1 C and a low of -9 C.
