You may have seen recent posts in Prince George Facebook groups or on the local Reddit page regarding an attack that allegedly occurred Feb. 3
The post tells the story a teenager being attacked and robbed, then seeking help from a couple after knocking on several doors and being turned away.
One post about the incident gained considerable attention, with more than 100 likes and more than 40 comments.
However, when The Citizen looked into the claim, the Prince George RCMP explained that the details in the online posts don't add up.
The RCMP clarified that a few elements of the post resemble one local incident, but in that case the alleged victim was an adult, not a teenager, and is currently a suspect in an ongoing mischief investigation.
Additionally, the RCMP stated that unless the Facebook posts were from people using fake names, the names involved in the current investigation did not match those mentioned in the posts.
Two separate accounts have also posted the same story, each claiming to be the Good Samaritan, further complicating the story’s validity.
In a statement to The Citizen, the RCMP said "It doesn’t appear that either poster is involved."
The RCMP was unable to provide further details about the ongoing investigation at this time and cannot confirm the validity of the posts with complete certainty.
Police also urged residents to "call 911 if someone they do not recognize is knocking on their door in the middle of the night, as they may not know the circumstances that led the person to be there."
