Eight-time Canadian university champions sign former Prince George hockey standout

Turns out, the Outhouse siblings are both set to compete for teams on the east coast next season. 

About 330 km will separate Griffen at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) from Paige at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) as the former Cariboo Cougars’ goaltender has committed to the eight-time national-champion Reds for 2020-21.

This comes after spending a year within the Winnipeg Jets’ organization.

While in Prince George, Outhouse led the 2014-15 BC U18 AAA season with a 2.04 goals-against average (GAA) in 23 games.

The now 22-year-old led the young Cats to a 29-3-8 record and a trip to the finals before losing the championship to the Vancouver North East Chiefs.

Originally from Likely, he then ventured to the WHL’s Victoria Royals where he made an immediate impact in his rookie season.

Outhouse combined for a 2.77 GAA, a .917 save percentage, 114 wins in 196 starts, playoff appearances in all four of his major junior years and a trip to the WHL division final in 2019.

After an invitation to the Jets’ rookie camp, he signed a one-year deal with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.

Outhouse is now joining, arguably, a current tour de force in Canadian men’s university hockey.

Not only are the UNB Reds the reigning national champions (2019), they’ve won five titles in the 2010s, all within a nine-year span, and, stretching it further, seven in the last 13 seasons.

The school added another Atlantic conference banner last year and sought back-to-back U-Sports trophies, but the 2020 championships were cancelled by COVID-19.

Outhouse’s sister Paige signed with UPEI in December.

He had also originally committed to the University of Alberta in August 2019, but elected to sign professionally instead.
