Elementary school student numbers see slight dip

There are slightly fewer elementary school students, but high school enrollment is up

The School District No. 57 (SD57) preliminary enrolment numbers are in and the data shows that while high school enrolment is slightly up, elementary school enrolment is down.

In total, 5,439 students are in high school in the district, up 64 from last year.

Leading the way was Mackenzie Secondary School, which saw about 48 more students enrolled full time, and in Prince George DP Todd saw 42 more students. Whereas Prince George Secondary School decreased by 29 full-time students but remains the largest high school in the city with 1,429 students.

There are 7,521 students enrolled in the district’s 32 elementary schools, which is a 53 student decrease from 7,574 in 2022/23.

All but 12 elementary schools have smaller student populations than a year ago, the largest dip being felt by Foothills Elementary, which is down 30 students to 205.

Giscome Elementary school is the smallest in the district with a population of only 15 students.

In total there are 11 more students enrolled in K-12 at SD57 than there were a last year and including adults, alternate community programs, continuing education and online learning, there are 34 more full-time students in the district.
