An evacuation order has been issued for 40 properties in the Upper Mud River Road area at risk of flooding.
After issuing an evacuation alert earlier Thursday afternoon, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George upgraded the alert to an order Thursday night.
The residents in the area have been asked to leave immediately. Those needing accommodation can go to the Sandman Signature or the Bon Voyage Inn. Identification will be required.
Those needing transportation help have been asked to call the regional district at 250-960-4400 or Emergency Management BC at 1-800-663-3456.
The public is reminded to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams,” the regional district said in a release. “High water-flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable. Please avoid all streams and water bodies with rising levels.”
