Northern B.C. residents have to look no further than their proverbial backyard to get a taste of summer adventure.
The Prince George Citizen is proud to present Explore the North 2017, which takes the reader on a tour which highlights the best of the northern region.
"Explore the North will be distributed to Citizen subscribers and will be available at tourism offices throughout northern B.C.," Cheryl Stewart, advertising director for The Citizen, said.
"So what it has in it is a whole bunch of things to do in different communities along the highway. We've got some information focusing on Prince George and things to see and do here, including special events."
On the list of events are those celebrating Canada 150.
Heatwave celebrates Canada's sesquicentennial with a free eight-day music festival at Canada Games Plaza that begins July 1 at 7 p.m. featuring performances by The French Connection, Andino Suns and Delhi 2 Dublin.
Check out the full schedule of musical treats on page 16 of Explore the North.
Another hot-weather highlight is Downtown Summerfest that takes place July 16 on the city hall lawn at Sixth Avenue and George Street and includes a butterfly house, interactive kids zone, live entertainment and a taste pavilion.
"There are also stories on areas such as Houston, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, Fort St. James, McBride and Valemount," Stewart said.
In the back of the glossy magazine, formerly known as the Northern Explorer, is a B.C. Provincial Park Directory featuring northern parks and all they have to offer those who enjoy the great outdoors.
Throughout Explore the North there are photographic contributions from readers including on the front page, which sees the winner of the photo contest that inspired shutterbugs to submit glimpses of their favourite spots discovered within the northern region.
