Transit drivers in Prince George will no longer collect fares and passengers must board buses using the rear door “to enhance social distancing.”

The changes, announced by BC Transit today (March 20), apply across the province and include handyDART transportation.

“We are implementing rear door boarding, where available, across the province to enhance social distancing for drivers and passengers. Passengers can still load through the front door if they require use of the ramp or other accessible features of the bus,” said BC Transit in a release.

Fares will be suspended for 30 days.

The release says customers will be updated on a “day-by-day basis.”

“BC Transit continues to adjust to the fluid situation along with other businesses and agencies in Canada and around the world. We are working hard to maintain services, and with the regularly changing situation we expect to have daily trip cancellations for the foreseeable future in various systems.”

Updates can be found on BC Transit's website.
