Fatal Highway 97 collision south of Prince George claims woman’s life

Highway 97 south of Prince George has re-opened following a fatal collision this morning (July 8).

Drive B.C. says the stretch of road near Hush Lake, about 20 km north of Quesnel, is smooth sailing in both directions after an eight-hour single-lane closure.

A woman died as a result of her injuries after a single-vehicle went off the road and ejected her around 5:45 a.m.

The male driver was sent to hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening conditions.

9:30 a.m.

A woman is dead this morning (July 8) following a single-vehicle collision south of Prince George.

According to Cpl. Mike Halskov with RCMP ‘E’ Division Traffic Services, the incident occurred at 5:45 a.m. near Hush Lake today, approximately 20 km north of Quesnel, where a vehicle carrying two people went off the road.

“The single vehicle left the roadway and one woman, who was a passenger, she was ejected from the vehicle and has passed away due to her injuries. The male driver was taken to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition.”

Drive B.C. is reporting single-lane alternating traffic in the area as the investigation into how the collision took place continues.

Quesnel RCMP, North District RCMP Traffic Services, and first responders are on-scene tending to the situation.
