A 16-year-old fiddle champion from Prince George will entertain at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Sydney Wilson said she's excited, but nervous about playing in front of about 35,000 people at the medal ceremony on Feb. 14.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Sydney who had to postpone other events to go to the games.

She will be part of a six-member all-star B.C. fiddle orchestra that also includes well known fiddler Daniel Lapp who grew up in Prince George.

The group will perform a traditional tune, Big John McNeil, and an Irish tune at the ceremony at BC Place.

"We get to rehearse together the day before," said Sydney who's hoping to at least find time to visit some of the Olympic pavilions including Canada's.

Sydney began playing pint-sized fiddles at about age seven and stated to compete at age nine. Since then she has captured a number of BC Old Time Fiddler Championships in her age category.

She also teaches fiddling and excels at soccer. She has caught the eyes of several U.S. scouts who are offering her soccer scholarships at universities.
