Elections BC has provided updated details on the number of absentee, mail-in and assisted telephone votes that will be part of the final count this weekend.

The results of the Oct. 19 election aren't fully known. As things stand Friday, the BC NDP is leading or elected in 46 ridings, while the Conservative Party of BC is leading or elected in 45. The BC Green Party is leading or elected in two ridings. A party must reach 47 seats to win a majority.

Some races are decided, including the three Prince George-area ridings. Kiel Giddens won Prince George-Mackenzie, Rosalyn Bird won Prince George-Valemount and Sheldon Clare won Prince George-North Cariboo. All three were elected for the first time.

Elections BC has released the number of certification envelopes containing mail-in and assisted telephone votes as well as the number of special and absentee ballots for all BC ridings.

These will be part of the final count.

  • Prince George-Mackenzie had 182 mail-in and assisted and 307 special and absentee ballots, for a total of 489
  • Prince George-North Cariboo had 215 mail-in and assisted and 754 special and absentee ballots, for a total of 969
  • Prince George-Valemount had 187 mail-in and assisted and 141 special and absentee ballots, for a total of 328

The final count, which will also include recounts in two very close races on Sunday, is set to begin Saturday and continue into Monday.
