Anyone interested in becoming a stem-cell donor will have a chance at this weekend’s Rodeo Prince George
The rodeo runs Friday through Sunday at Exhibition Park. Friday includes Jackpot barrel racing at 3 p.m. (races start at 5 p.m.), with rodeo action at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
During the rodeo, volunteers will be on hand at a booth to offer a short questionnaire and take a mouth swab from potential donors.
Stem cells are produced by bone marrow and are responsible for the generation of new cells. Transplants of stem cells can be used to treat several types of cancer as well as other blood and immune system diseases where other treatments may not be an option.
Donors must be healthy and between 17 and 35, making it difficult to find people to give.
