New playgrounds are popping up around the city with five already replaced under the 2017 Playground Plan.
The plan includes replacing or removing several playgrounds in the city that no longer meet the safety requirements set by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
Byng Park, Eaglenest Park, Moosehart Park, North College Park and Ridgeview Park have been finished so far.
The playgrounds were chosen based on an assessment that factored in a number of criteria including community feedback and playground physical and safety conditions.
The five year plan outlines the schedule to replace 25 of the city's 66 playgrounds with CSA-compliant equipment.
The plan also includes the removal of 20 playgrounds with the locations remaining as parkland and green spaces, not including school playgrounds.
"The playground plan will help ensure CSA standards and levels of quality are met now and in the future," said Sean LeBrun, the city's manager of parks and solid waste.
