Five Prince George residents facing drug charges following 2019 investigations

Charges are coming for five residents on three separate drug investigations that happened in Prince George last year.

The federal prosecution service of Canada has approved charges related to the investigations.

$1M cash and cannabis

On March 23, 2019, members of the Prince George RCMP's Street Crew Unit executed a search warrant under the Cannabis Act at a home in the city. 

A subsequent search yielded more than 55 kg (121 pounds) of dried cannabis, a significant amount of other forms of cannabis products, several firearms, ammunition and more than $550,000 in cash. 

The total value of cash and cannabis is estimated to be approximately $1 million. 

Two Prince George residents, 36-year-old Scott William Loutit and 30-year-old Katelyn Loutit, have been charged with the following Cannabis Act and Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a loaded restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm

Both accused are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23, 2020.

15 Ave. and Ospika drug bust

On July 5, 2019, the Prince George RCMP's Street Crew Unit executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at residences on the 3800-block 15 Avenue and the 200-block of North Ospika Boulevard. 

Searches of the residences and occupants found a significant amount of cash, cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, and three men, all Prince George residents, have now been charged.

Marshall Luther Cade, age 26, has been charged with the following four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

John Jacob Ceal, age 30, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

Shawn Brian Whaling, age 27, has been charged with the possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

All three accused are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23, 2020.

Irwin St. and Ospika drug bust

On July 26, 2019, the Prince George RCMP's Street Crew Unit executed two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at residences on the 1300-block Irwin Street and 200-block North Ospika Boulevard. 

These searches were the result of an arrest of a man earlier in the day as part of a drug-trafficking investigation.

Searches of the residences and the man found a loaded prohibited handgun, a significant amount of cocaine, a significant amount of cash, and approximately $100,000 in gold jewellery.

Shawn Brian Whaling, who was also charged in the above July 5 incident, has been charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a loaded firearm without a licence

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 30, 2020.
