The city has closed sections of Cottonwood Island Nature Park because of rising river levels.
Barricades and signs have been installed on the bridge leading into the island in the park, near the rail bridge, and on the trail running from the canoe launch to the Yelllowhead Bridge.
Sections of the park trail began to experience some flooding yesterday (May 22), but the BC River Forecast Centre forecasts river levels will recede over the next few days. City staff will continue to monitor river levels and will reopen closed sections of the park when it is safe to do so.
The city says it also encourages residents to use caution whenever walking near the rivers, particularly during periods of increased water levels.
