Readin', Ritin' and 'Rythmatic can be challenging at times for some students and when that happens a little outside help might be all that's needed to lean into the learning curve.
The Prince George Public Library offers Homework Help every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. until
April 14.
Students between Grades 3 and 12 can build their skills in math with the help of two University of Northern B.C. students and improve their English skills with the help of library staff.
The tutoring is a free service because it's funded by the PG Literacy Advisory Committee, Children First, and Equity Grants.
"We usually try to have a ratio of two students to one tutor but we've had as many as four to one," said Heather Gloster, teen librarian at the main branch where Homework Help is held.
"We try to pair up children who are close to the same age."
The tutors literally help with homework, and, if the students don't have homework, bring along the text book and work ahead, said Gloster.
"Lots of parents are very excited about the program and the kids seem to really like it, too," said Gloster. "The people who are using it are the families who really need it, who can't afford to spend the money to get their kids a tutor and I think it's great also because it brings people into the library who maybe don't use our resources so it introduces them to the library and when they see what other things are going on hopefully they'll become life long library users."
Because it's so popular, children must be registered in advance for a one-hour session by calling 250-563-9251, ext. 108.
