Gently-used scrubs wanted

Health professionals in the Prince George area may want to check their closets this weekend for any gently-used scrub garb they can part with to support a CNC bursary for a health science student worthy of needed financial support.

Health professionals in the Prince George area may want to check their closets this weekend for any gently-used scrub garb they can part with to support a CNC bursary for a health science student worthy of needed financial support.

The uniforms will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26 during a one-day blitz at Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation in the lobby of University Hospital.

"I hope to establish a way for future health professionals to benefit from current health professionals while recycling scrubs and benefitting everyone," said Nancy Esopenko, an RN who teaches in the Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate of Nursing Program.

Collection bins have been distributed to the main clusters of health professionals in Prince George and central sites are at UHNBC, Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation, Northern Interior Health Unit, Lakewood Dental, CNC library, Victoria medical lab and Canadian Blood Services.

Doctors, nurses, medical lab and radiography technologists, health care assistants, technologists, and dental hygienists are encouraged to donate scrubs that must be clean and in good enough shape for others to use.

Once collected, the scrubs will be sorted and prepared for sale for $5 to $20 on Wed. Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in conjunction with CNC's Health and Wellness Fair in the Atrium.

Proceeds go towards a health sciences student bursary and new equipment for the nursing lab, said Esopenko, who can be contacted at 250-562-3131 Loc. 5211.
