The internet’s most beloved cat is in a better place now.
Tardar Sauce, most notably known as Grumpy Cat, has died.
Her owners released a statement this morning (May 17) announcing the cat’s passing.
“Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome,” reads the statement.
She passed away on Tuesday (May 14) at home in the arms of her owner, Tabatha.
“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough,” continues the statement. “Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”
Grumpy cat was born on April 4, 2012, and became an internet sensation after her photo was posted on the popular website Reddit in September 2012.
Her petite size and famous face was likely due to feline dwarfism which also made her rear end wobble a bit when she walked.
Her internet fame led to countless memes, merchandise, media appearances, and even a Grumpy Cat movie.
