What's keeping the officer in charge of the Prince George RCMP detachment up at night is the same thing that's on everyone's mind - gun violence.
"Particularly the gang-related violence that we've seen over the last couple of weeks here culminating in several shootings," said superintendent Shaun Wright.
"It's frustrating to me when there's a situation where people don't feel safe walking down the streets of their own neighbourhood."
On Wednesday in the early hours after a search warrant was executed on the 400-block of South Lyon Street two arrests were made and a variety of firearm charges have been laid against Thomas Joshua Toman, 21 and Jamie Wade Fatum, 28, both of Prince George.
The firearms charges were laid but there hasn't been sufficient evidence gathered for any further charges related to the shooting incidents.
"What we have determined is the identity of some of the individuals involved so we've sought over the last week to disturb their activities and taken enforcement action where we can at this point in time," Wright said.
The police continue to investigate the shooting incidents and will determine if additional charges will come against these individuals as well as others, he added.
"Hopefully they will be remanded in custody for some period of time, which will help prevent further violent incidents," Wright said.
Recent gun-related crimes included shots fired at a home on McIntyre Crescent on Sept. 15 and at a Quinn Street home the following Thursday. Then later that same day an apparent argument between three people on foot and two cyclists led to a man getting shot near the intersection of Upland Street and 20th Avenue.
A week ago Friday morning at a Vancouver Street home there was more gun-related damage discovered.
Then on Monday at about 2 a.m. there was a similar incident at a home on Bellos Street in which a woman was found suffering a gunshot wound in a driveway on Norwood Street, but it was then determined the shooting actually took place three blocks away on Oak Street.
