A 26-year-old woman appeared in Prince George Provincial Court this afternoon after being charged with aggravated assault, assault and breach of probation last week.
The charges against Hailee Kowalchuk are a result of an incident alleged by Kennedy Barker, also of Prince George, claiming Kowalchuk attacked her in the early hours of Jan. 25.
She alleges she woke up with her hands tied with either a blanket or pillowcase while she was asleep and awoke to being attacked.
"She bit a piece of my lip off and beat me senseless for 15 minutes straight," she tells PrinceGeorgeMatters. "I was threatened with my life. There was a knife involved but she never cut me with it. A male friend tried to pull her off of me and called RCMP. I managed to get away and get in the bathroom and lock the door. I lost a lot of blood and sustained a lot of bruising on my face."
Prince George RCMP confirmed an incident occurred the date given by Barker where they were called after a fight occurred.
Once arrived, they found a female victim with part of her lower lip missing.
Kowalchuk appeared in court via video wearing a burgundy sweater and did not speak with numerous family and friends in attendance for both the alleged victim (also present) and accused.
Her defence lawyer asked for the matter to be adjourned until Friday (Feb. 1).
The judge agreed and the case has been moved to Friday at 9:30 a.m. to fix a date (fixing a date involves setting a trial or hearing date).
Kowalchuk will not be required to be present for the hearing.
