After going 2-3-2 in the first two weeks of the new B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) season, the reigning Fred Page Cup champions have decided to shake the roster a little bit.
The Prince George Spruce Kings have acquired two new players from two different leagues, while trading away forward Mack Stewart and defenceman Nolan Barrett.
Stewart, a product of Austria with no points thus far, is heading to the Alberta league to join the Lloydminister Bobcats in exchange for defenceman Mason Waite.
Waite mustered 24 points, including 19 assists, in 55 games with the Bobcats last year, who finished last in their division.
The Spruce Kings are adding Kolton Cousins to the forwards class as he was also acquired today (Sept. 24) from the Cowichan Valley Capitals for Barrett, who also had no points in seven games with Prince George.
Cousins had 11 points in 55 BCHL regular-season games and five in 12 playoff contests.
“We are excited to add both Mason and Kolton to our program today,” said ‘Kings General Manager Mike Hawes in a statement. “Mason is a mobile defenseman with good size who plays in all situations. He is dependable defensively while being able to contribute offensively. Kolton is very hard-working forward who will also contribute in both ends while adding a lot of spark to our lineup.”
Both new players are likely to suit up in the red, white, and blue when they host Alberni Valley on Friday (Sept. 27) and Trail on Saturday (Sept. 28), both have 7 p.m. face-offs at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
