A local youth made the mistake of briefly leaving an expensive mountain bike outside a local fast food restaurant and now Prince George RCMP are asking for the public's help in tracking down the item - and the person who stole it.
The bike is described as a red and black Specialized P26 worth about $1,500 and the suspect is described as a First Nations woman, about 25 years old, who was wearing a long sleeve red jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black back pack. She was accompanied by a male on a lime green BMX bike, RCMP added.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. on Domano Boulevard near Highway 16.
RCMP, meanwhile, said bike owners should always lock their bikes with the best locks they can afford.
They're also encouraged to register their bikes through the Project 529 program at no cost. It will be available this Saturday during the VLA Family BBQ in Strathcona Park, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Sunday at Downtown Summerfest, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at Canadian Tire on Monday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Anyone with information on the stolen bike is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300, or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
