Two weeks after it was closed to allow the sudden evacuation of 25,000 people fleeing the flames that incinerated one-third of the town of Jasper, Highway 16 will finally be reopened to recreational motorists.
Starting on Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT, daily traffic will be allowed through Jasper National Park.
Motorists are being advised there will be no fuel available after the Mount Robson Petro-Canada station for eastbound traffic.
The reopening is subject to change based on operational needs.
Highway 16 reopened for commercial vehicles last week.
Highway 93 between the Jasper townsite and Saskatchewan River Crossing remains closed.
