Commuters heading north out of Prince George today (Nov. 17) may want to consider postponing their travel.
Environment Canada has upgraded its alert for Highway 97 at the Pine Pass to a winter storm warning as of 3:40 a.m. this morning.
It's the only region from yesterday (Nov. 16) to see the upgrade as others remain on snowfall warnings excluding Prince George's local area.
The service says hazardous conditions are expected but should start to taper off and improve by tomorrow morning (Nov. 18).
The Pacific storm from Monday is continuing to bring heavy snow and strong winds for the Pine Pass, and today's forecast could see a total of up to 30 cm of additional snow by tonight.
Visibility will be very minimal and could be reduced to nothing on a moment's notice.
If commuters insist on driving through these roads today, you're asked to drive with extreme caution and make sure you're prepared.
Prince George's forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of flurries this evening with winds gusting up to 50 km/h, dropping the overnight temperature to -12 C.
Snowfall warnings are in effect for the Peace River, Bulkley Valley and Lakes District, Nechako and Fort Nelson regions.
If you're heading further west on Highway 16, a winter storm warning is also in effect for communities like Kitimat and Terrace.
Batten down the hatches! Very strong winds are expected along the coast this morning as a deep pacific low moves up the coast.
