There was a hit and run accident on Highway 97 at Noranda Road about around 7 p.m. Friday night. A woman was left lying on the road as result of the hit and run accident.

A 37-year-old pregnant pedestrian is in stable condition at University Hospital of Northern B.C. after a crash Friday night that took the life of her unborn child.

The driver of the vehicle that struck her on Highway 97 and Noranda Road in the Hart did not remain at the scene.

"Evidence at the site of the incident indicates that a 2014-2017 Ford F350 may have been involved in the collision," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said in a news release."The vehicle will have damage to the front passenger side. Police are looking for any witnesses to the collision or anyone that was driving in that area between 6:30 and 6:50 p.m. with a dash cam to call the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 to speak with an investigator."

The first drivers on the scene said they almost ran the woman over as she was left lying on the highway after she was struck.

At that time, the woman was semi-conscious with a badly injured leg.

A lifeguard with advanced first aid training helped the woman while bystanders offered a scarf to wrap around her leg and a coat to cover her as others stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.
