Home sales strong

The Northern B.C. Real Estate Board announced a reasonably strong month for sales activity in the city. A total of 99 single family homes were sold in Prince George in May for an average price of $257,687.

The Northern B.C. Real Estate Board announced a reasonably strong month for sales activity in the city.

A total of 99 single family homes were sold in Prince George in May for an average price of $257,687.

This was high than the same month in both 2009 and 2008. The sales price was just more than six per cent higher than May of '09 and nearly seven per cent higher than May of 2008.

Sales also continued a trend of improving prices with May being two per cent higher than April.

Digging deeper into the numbers in would appear the real estate market in Prince George is firming up.

The year-to-date average price is up just under six percent over 2009 and slightly better than the first five months of 2008, as well.

The numbers continue to look hood compared to last year, with home sales up almost 14 per cent over the same period last year.

On the downside, the report shows home sales down by 7.6 per cent from two years ago.

As well, the city trails the provincial and national averages.

Provincially, sales were up 31.3 percent, with the sales price up an average of 14 percent.

Ona national basis, home sales jumped 24.5 per cent with prices rising and average of 13.4 per cent.
