If you like the heat and sunshine, get outside today.
After setting a record for the hottest May 4 on record yesterday, we’re in for another warm day today with a high of 25 C expected.
It won’t shatter the all-time high of 26.9 C, recorded in 1990, but it will be close.
Thursday's high of 26.8 C broke the 1998 record of 25.2 C for the hottest day on record in Prince George.
Unfortunately, this long stretch of sunny weather is coming to an end and rain is expected later today with a 40 per cent chance of thundershowers late this afternoon.
But we need that moisture.
There’s been no measurable precipitation in Prince George since April 16 and that’s prompted an air quality advisory that’s now into its third day. If we get enough rain today to take down that road dust and the large particulates that cause breathing problems the advisory will be lifted.
More showers are expected Saturday but not before noon, so if you have any outdoor activities planned, morning is the best time for that. Watch out for thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
Saturday’s high is predicted to reach 18 C, still two degrees warmer than normal, and the low will dip to 4 C, also two degrees warmer than normal for this time of year.
More rain showers are in the forecast for Sunday with a high of 10 C and a low of 5 C.
The sun is expected to return next week, starting Monday, and with that will come more above-average temperatures.
Environment Canada predicts a high of 17 C on Monday, 19 C on Tuesday, 22 C on Wednesday and 23 C on Thursday, with lows in the 2-5 C range.
