An elderly couple escaped with their lives after an early-morning fire Sunday which destroyed their home in the South Fort George district.
Prince George Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday to the house in the 800 block of Hamilton Avenue after a neighbour reported the fire.
The two occupants of the house were taken to hospital to be treated for undetermined injuries.
Fire crews from three halls responded but could not save the house. Damage is estimated at about $300,000. The cause of the blaze has not been determined, although it is believed to have started on the front deck of the house.
