Approximately 300 properties in the Southridge area of College Heights will be without water for much of Friday.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the City of Prince George said crews will need to shut off the water supply to repair a watermain break located at 7051 Southridge Ave. The water outage is expected to last roughly 10 hours, starting at 7 a.m. on Friday.
Southridge Elementary School will not be affected, the city added.
“The area of affected properties includes nearly the entirety of the Southridge neighbourhood from Southridge Avenue south of St. Anthony Crescent to the St. Dennis Heights area,” the statement released by the city said. “The area surrounding the main, built in 1992, will be excavated to allow crews to access the break. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route, although local single-alternating traffic will be permitted.”
Residents can prepare for the outage by filling pots and jugs with water for cooking and drinking, the city statement said. Residents can also fill their bathtubs with water to allow them to flush the toilet with a bucket. A toilet will flush when approximately four litres of water is poured into the bowl.
“The City would like to thank area residents for their patience and understanding while crews work to repair the water main,” the statement said.
