The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an August 2021 collision incident in Prince George involving an RCMP officer’s vehicle.

The IIO says information reported by the affected person states that at about 2 p.m. on August 19 there was a collision involving a female driver’s blue Kia Rio and an RCMP officer’s silver Nissan Pathfinder on Highway 97 near Industrial Way in the Bear Lake area.

During the collision, the woman sustained injuries and emergency health services transported her to hospital for treatment.

The woman’s injuries were not initially believed to be serious, and the IIO was therefore not notified at the time of the incident.

The IIO was subsequently notified of the incident on April 29, 2022 and the injuries were found to meet the threshold for serious harm as defined by the Police Act, and an investigation has been commenced.

The IIO is asking any person with relevant information of the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

The IIO is the independent civilian oversight agency of the police in British Columbia. It investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
