Susan Lestage, a 40-year employee at Pacific Western Brewery and Canada’s first female brewer, passed away on Feb. 20 at Rotary Hospice House in Prince George.
Born in Campbell River on Oct. 10, 1954, she came to the Central Interior with the family in 1962. In 1974, she was hired at what is now Pacific Western Brewery and retired in 2014, rising in the company to become a brewer, a job (and an accomplishment) she was very proud of.
When she wasn’t at work, she maintained a pristine yard and garden, even clearing the public area behind her house and maintaining that space like a park, as well. On the miles she walked and/or bicycled every day, she was often accompanied by her beloved and faithful dog Cindy.
