Prince George could be getting its first industrial cannabis production facility.
Cannwest Development, which develops what it calls ‘craft cannabis industrial parks’, is seeking to rezone two lots on Willow Cale Road.
The rezoning application, which would allow for the development, was the subject of a formal public hearing at the regular March 11 council meeting.
While no one spoke in opposition against the facility, the applicants submitted a PowerPoint presentation which explains more about the proposed facility.
The facility is designed to meet the exact needs of micro cannabis producers and would be available to host independent micro-brands.
In the presentation, the company says that craft cannabis is “high quality and premium grade” and that “more patience, care, and attention to detail goes into growing curing and harvesting the product.”
Cannwest Development’s CEO Sean Maloney was also in the gallery to answer any questions.
“I really appreciate the application and the presentation Cannwest has submitted. It’s very detailed with lots of information and I think they are going to have a great facility in our city,” said Coun. Kyle Sampson.
“Something I spoke a lot about in the fall was diversifying our city in Prince George and this is exactly that.”
City council unanimously granted third reading to the production facility, which will now have to undergo final reading and adoption before shovels can hit the ground.
