Integris Credit Union has announced they're adding a new branch in Fraser Lake.

CIBC had announced its closure in the village, which put residents and businesses in a devastating situation for their financial needs.

Mayor of Fraser Lake, Sarrah Storey, says Integris was their first choice to reach out for help.

"We are pleased to announce that help has arrived," she says in a news release. "Fraser Lake is such a great place to live and having Integris – a thriving regional financial cooperative that cares about the community and its people – is the absolute best choice for our promising community and the surrounding area. We couldn’t be happier to have Integris expand their service."

Integris says they consulted with the Village of Fraser Lake, Stellat'en and Nadeh First Nations, residents and regional stakeholders before making a final decision to go ahead with the expansion of its operations.

"Following an extensive business case and financial viability analysis, the Integris Board is satisfied that we are in a position to succeed in providing financial solutions to the residents and businesses of Fraser Lake, Stellako and Nadleh,” Cheryl Wallace, Chair of Integris' Board of Directors adds in the release. “Our Fraser Lake expansion means that we will be better positioned to support current and future members while keeping our profits local through member dividends, local employment and community investment.”

The credit union says the branch expects to open in early 2020.

"As a financial cooperative (credit union), we are committed to enriching lives by providing innovative financial solutions to our communities,” Alison Hoskins, Integris CEO says. “The way in which we provide banking, borrowing, insurance and wealth management to our personal and business members differs considerably from that of the big banks. Our profits stay here, our decisions are made locally and we exist to enrich our communities. Our expansion into Fraser Lake demonstrates our difference. We believe that providing physical access to financial services enables greater economic resilience in our region generally and here in the Fraser Lake area specifically - that’s good for everyone that calls north-central B.C. home."
