Is rent really that crazy in Prince George? You bet it is!

We’ve all heard rent has gone up so it’s crazy expensive in Prince George.

We’ve all heard rent has gone up so it’s crazy expensive in Prince George.

But how bad can it really be?

Looking at Kijiji and on the Facebook rental page, it took a bit to figure out that '$500 - 2 beds 1 bath - house' meant there was a bedroom for rent in the small house and all other space is shared and along with the cute young lady who lives there you have to live with her giant dog who sheds. (And just a warning, in the photo it looks like he might be a bit of a drooler, too.)

Shared accommodation seems to be the most affordable so you’re basically renting a bedroom with all other spaces shared with strangers. Not ideal but at least you’ve got a roof over your head. You can get a room most often for under $1,000.

So it looks like the best bargain for your own living space is $900 for a studio apartment on Third Avenue in the ‘Crescents’, which means you’re not in the greatest part of downtown.

‘Studio’ means there’s no bedroom – you’re sleeping in your living room and you get a kitchen and a bathroom in 450 square feet. Included is heat and hot water and there’s laundry in the building but that’s about it. Upside is it’s all yours with no giant dog as a roommate.

Most everything else goes from $1,200 to as much at $3,900 to rent a three-bedroom house.

There are some swanky, shiny new spaces up for rent that start at about $1,400 a month for a one bedroom and about $1,700 for a two bedroom in the same building and those are located all over town.

Happy hunting, people.
