Former Prince George mayor Colin Kinsley is expected to announce Thursday that he'll be seeking the Conservative Party candidacy in Prince George-Peace River.

Sources say he'll break the news at a early-evening press conference.

Kinsley's last run at a seat in parliament ended in 1993 with a landslide loss to Dick Harris in the old Prince George-Bulkley Valley ridiing.

Kinsley, who was running for the Progressive Conservatives when Kim Campbell was the leader and her predecessor, Brian Mulroney, was hugely unpopular, drew 4,215 votes for a fourth-place finish while Harris won the seat with 13,927 votes under the Reform banner.

One other Prince George resident, city councillor and small business owner Cameron Stolz, has thrown his hat in the ring, as have four others: Bob Zimmer, Dan Davies, Don Irwin, all from Fort St. John and Jerrilyn Schembri, who is from Tumbler Ridge.

Prince George-Peace River Conservative MP Jay Hill has said he'll retire on Oct. 25.

The three candidates from Fort St. John make their living as either teachers or school principals and have spent some time on the executive of the constituency association. The Schembri is a councillor in Tumbler Ridge.
