A day-long ground and air search Thursday failed to locate a lost Prince George teenager.

Kristen Nelson, 14, has been missing from her home in the Johnson Road area since Tuesday early evening when she was last seen walking along Johnson Road.

Nine volunteer members of Prince George Search and Rescue, including a Provincial Emergency program fixed-wing team, searched the Tabor Lake area where Kristen is known to do a lot of riding on all-terrain vehicles.

"She is known to often go out there where she knows the area well as well as the trails," said RCMP Cst. Godwin, media relations officer.

Jeff Smedley, manager of the Search and Rescue said the search operation also involved a BC Parks jet boat which searched along Tabor Lake and its in-creeeks and out-creeks while an RCMP helicopter and spotter from Kamloops searched trails around the the lake and those leading to Tabor Mountain.

"We completed all search areas requested by the RCMP," said Smedley.

Godwin said after a search by Kristen's family came up empty, they called the RCMP Wednesday.

"We decided to err on the side of caution and called Search and Rescue, but there's been no sign of her," said Godwin, noting, it's at least good to know she's nowhere in that trail area.

"We just don't know where she is, but we're hoping she will call her parents or the RCMP to say she's okay.

"If she's staying with friends, they need to let her parents know, or call the RCMP at 250-561-3300 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS," said Godwin.

Smedley said Thursdays search was the sixth operation by Search and Rescue in two weeks.
