Eskers and Mount Robson provincial parks are about to get slightly larger as a result of legislation introduced Monday in the B.C. legislature.
It formalizes the addition of 64.8 hectares to Eskers, increasing its size to 4,044 hectares, by incorporating a private in-holding that was surrounded by the park, 40 kilometres northwest of Prince George.
And Mount Robson is being expanded by 911 hectares into the Marathon Creek drainage on the southwest boundary, increasing its size to 225,285 hectares. The idea is to "protect the visual quality of the upper Fraser River watershed in the vicinity of the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies," according to a government press release.
Elsewhere, Tyhee Lake Park near Smithers will grow by 5.6 hectares to 39 hectares through a private land acquisition that protects a large cattail and reed complex where waterfowl and songbirds live.
