Her exceptional season continues.

Madison Landry has played lights out thus far, showing once again Saturday night (Nov. 23) in Kamloops why she's one of the top players in the conference.

The fourth-year forward made history in UNBC's 87-77 overtime win against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (TRU), tying the program's single-game scoring record with 36 points.

Landry, who was named Canada West's third star of the week on Tuesday (Nov. 19), has averaged over 20 points a night through the first eight games of 2019-20.

She dropped 20 points against the TWU Spartans on Nov. 8, which gave UNBC its first win of the new season, and followed that performance with a 24-point night on Nov. 15 against UBC at home.

In the first quarter, the Timberwolves would get ahead early with an 11-3 lead and didn't look back, ending the quarter with a 23-15 advantage.

Maria Mongomo was 100 per cent (5/5) from the field for UNBC and finished the opening frame with 11 points.

The Timberwolves would struggle in the second quarter which gave TRU's Emily Ferguson, Leilani Carney and Emma Piggin seven points each, while UNBC would manage only 14 before halftime.

The WolfPack cut the lead to 37-35 for UNBC.

The third was back and forth with both teams trading momentum and it quickly became a battle after each squad was in the bonus with only three minutes left in the stanza.

Landry and Mongomo had already combined for 46 points, helping UNBC to a 57-52 lead heading into the final quarter.

UNBC couldn't squeeze out the win as Piggin came up huge for TRU and nailed a three-pointer to send the game to overtime.

Mongomo and Landry continued to play dominantly offensively while Alina Shakirova would put the nail in the coffin later in the extra frame to give the Timberwolves a massive 87-77 win on the road.

“I think my performance yesterday (6 points) actually contributed to today,” said Landry postgame. “It was almost sickening thinking about it. I had all day to think about it and prepare. I wanted a different outcome.”

Mongomo also reached the same bracket as Landry, posting 31 pints of her own.

The UNBC women's basketball team is now 3-5 and won't see the floor again until the new year when they venture to Calgary Jan. 3 and 4.
