The spelling bee now has 43 contenders from across northern B.C., but organizers are hoping to have more than 50 entered .

The fifth annual bee will be held early next year in Prince George for Grade four to eight students, and the regional winner, who goes on to compete in the national spelling bee in Ottawa in March, will take home $5,000 from the Prince George event to further their education.

The bee is made possible by national sponsors Egg Farmers of Canada and Air Canada and local sponsors UNBC, Prince George Rotary clubs and Kumon, a learning centre.
